Hi All,
What a great start to 2015! Your kids came eager and ready to learn and we’ve jumped in with two feet.
Reading- Students met my friend Rocky Raccoon, who taught us how important it is to visualize what we are reading in our heads. Over the next week or so, try to read a new story to your child without sharing the pictures. Seeing stories like a movie in your head is a very important comprehension skill, and it does not come naturally to all children. Ask them what they “see” after each page before you show them the picture.
Math- Kindergarteners just finished their numbers 10-20 chapter and will be moving onto solids and shapes. First graders are finishing up their solids/shapes unit, and will be moving on to place value (hundreds, tens and ones).
Writing- We are in the final stretch of our non-fiction writing unit. We will be editing and publishing a book next week, but we will not be having a large celebration for this particular unit.
Science- We will begin a unit on Life Science next week. We will be learning what living things need to grow.
Odds and Ends-
Our art teacher is collecting brown grocery bags with handles to make art portfolios for each child. If you have some, please send them in.
The QAE auction packet went home today, please check it out. It is scheduled for the evening of Friday, March 20th and it is sure to be loads of fun!
Ms. Lauren, our fabulous student teacher, needs you to sign a photograph/video waiver, as she will occasionally videotape herself teaching and needs your permission to do so. Please sign and return ASAP.
Please remember to pack your child a snack each day.
Thank you for the supplies!
Best,
Shauna
