Dear Families,
We had a fun-filled week in kindergarten and 1st grade. Carl’s mom gave us an amazing presentation about Germany on Wednesday. The kids were very eager to learn about castles and German cities, and they especially enjoyed their treat of Haribo gummy bears.
The Hour of Code was motivating. The kids explored basic coding at http://code.org with the help of Anna and Elsa from Frozen. We talked about angles in terms of degrees. 360° , 180°, 90°….etc. This is a skill that is fun to practice while waiting in line- see how much your child remembers.
On Friday, we had a wonderful presentation about Argentina by Logan’s Spanish maestra, Ellie. The kids were fascinated to learn about the ice caves and glaciers found in southern Argentina.
I am excited to let you know that, Lauren Liseth, an M. ED candidate from Seattle University, has been placed in our classroom for the spring semester as a student teacher. (Will go by Ms. Lauren) I had a chance to interview Lauren on Thursday and was very impressed. She will be watching/observing all week this week, and will be working in the classroom one day a week beginning in January. In late March she will begin coming daily. I loved student teaching and have had wonderful experiences learning/mentoring other student teachers throughout my career. I am thrilled to be inviting such a bright and energetic young woman into our classroom. The kids are going to love her!
Sienna’s mom, Christa, has been busy planning/prepping our holiday party. The festivities will begin at 1:00 this Friday (don’t forget school gets out one hour early that day at 2:40pm). All are welcome!
Progress Reports will be going home with your child on Friday. Just a reminder that a “3” is considered meeting grade level standards. If you have any questions or concerns after looking over the report, just let me know. I am planning to stay off school email over Winter Break, but I will get back to you as soon as school begins in the New Year.
I hope everybody has a fun-filled and relaxing break. I have everything crossed for snow in the mountains so the Seattle ski season can get started. I wouldn’t mind a little lowland snow either. ;) I am so thankful to have such wonderful students and families, I hope 2015 brings you all good fortune!!
