Hi All,
We’ve had another wonderful week in room 106. The kids have been working hard, and they are already amazing me. They have perfected classroom routines that usually take months to master, in only 8 days!
Ms. Anna and I have been working hard to assess kids so we can plan and individualize instruction as much as possible. It’s a slow process, but we are making good progress.
We began the new SPS math curriculum “Math in Focus/Singapore Math” this week. The initial unit is very easy, allowing for the development of a shared vocabulary. The kids are very excited about their math journals (workbooks). We are looking forward to some exciting math this year.
Thanks to those of you who have returned your SPS packet. If you could get it all back to me (including the supply check), by next Wed, that would be great.
The photographs for our writing folders have begun to trickle in, thank you! I will have parent (family) volunteers laminating them next week, so please try to have them to me no later than Monday.
Ms. Skoog, our amazing school counselor/psychologist visited our classroom Thursday to teach us about the “Brain in the Palm of your Hand.” If you’re interested in learning more about this, see here: http://parentingfromscratch.wordpress.com/2012/09/11/flipping-our-lids-and-closing-them-again/ We decided to name our classroom “Calm Body Spot,” the Pillow Palace. J
One last thing, many people are asking about volunteering in the classroom. I love classroom volunteers!!! Our PTA will be providing a Volunteer Orientation to any interested families. As soon as I have the dates, I will pass them along to you.
Sorry this was so long, Questions? Concerns? Please don’t hesitate. Have a lovely weekend!!
Upcoming Events!
Best,
Shauna
